St. Vincent de Paul Church & St. Frances
Cabrini Church Parish School of Religion
July 20, 2020
Dear Parish Families,
Welcome back to returning families and our new families! We are excited to begin the year with you and your children. My name is Jackie Prosak and the Director of Religious Education and Youth Ministry. My positon oversees all Catholic education of youth and young adults as well as Adult Faith. It is a pleasure to serve the church and this precious ministry.
Our theme for this PSR year is “We will bear much Fruit” which is rooted in the scripture from John 15:5 as shown above. We hope it will inspire our families and youth to serve others and live a fruitful Christian life!
Our PSR program is held on Monday evenings from 6:30-7:45pm in the School building. The beginning of our PSR year for grades 1-7 and our Confirmation students will be Monday September 14th, 2020. Kindergarten students are allowed to register for the program but they are taught with the 1st graders. Those with preschool age students, a booklet for our youngest parishioners is available when you register students. There is no in person class for preschoolers at this time.
Students and parents are to meet in the church as we will begin with a Mass
and then follow with our parent information meeting. Enclosed you will find a schedule of our classes and special events as well as our registration form and medical release form. You also have
the option to register on our website’s Google form. A paper medical form and release is still required.
Classroom assignments will be known the week we begin. On our first evening we will give classroom/teacher assignments. Depending on our numbers of those physically returning, our classrooms may be a stand alone grade or a combined graded classroom. In the same vein, there may be a lack of students in a particular grade and may need to be cancelled and the parents would teach remotely.
For those youth in grades 8 and above desiring the Sacrament for
Confirmation, there will be a parent/teen meeting Sunday August 30th at 1:00PM in the Social Hall. More information will be forthcoming. Those classes will begin on
the same Monday listed above, but may has a slightly different schedule. First Communion preparation takes place within the Monday evening sessions. A Parent meeting for First Communion is normally
scheduled for some time in October.
We always encourage parents to help be aides, teachers, or volunteers for our program. Virtus trained adults are welcome and we train those that need it. Please contact me if you would like to know more on how you can help!

Monday July 13, 2020
Dear St. Frances Cabrini Families,
My name is Jackie Prosak and I am the Director of Religious Education at our neighboring cluster parish of St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father Retar has asked me to introduce myself and outline his plan for PSR for the coming 2020-2021 term.
A Director of Religious Education or DRE is someone who is coordinates and plans for all things religious education such as: Catechesis, Sacraments, Adult faith, Youth Ministry, Family Ministry, and more. With this position in mind, it is my job to walk with families throughout their faith journey providing guidance and support. I have been involved in Youth and Family Ministry for 13 years and in a DRE/Youth Minister capacity for 11 years. I received my Bachelors of History and Religious Studies from John Carroll University in 2008. I am also a certified Catechist and certified Youth Minister in the Diocese of Cleveland. I am a life-long parishioner at St. Vincent de Paul Church and live in Lorain with my husband Ben, and sons Nicholas, and William. It is my honor to serve the families and parishioners at St. Vincent and now St. Frances.
It has been decided that our two PSR Programs will be combined into to share resources and space. PSR for St. Frances and St. Vincent will take place on Monday evenings 6:30-7:45PM in the school building of St. Vincent de Paul Church. Our program runs from September-April/beginning of May. We incorporate liturgy, service, catechesis, prayer, family nights, and fun into our program year. The text that we use is called Pflaum Gospel Weeklies. These are handy weekly booklets that focus on the Sunday Gospel as a backdrop to age appropriate catechesis. They are easy to use in the classroom and with parents.
The Diocese of Cleveland has given us some guidelines. There will be Masks required for those in Grades 3-above and teachers. Those that
are younger it will be strongly encouraged. Applying sanitizer when entering classrooms, social distancing within the classrooms etc. will be required. Extra masks will be available but we encourage
families to bring/use their own. Both Parishes will be working together to make all of this happen for our young people to keep kids and families safe during this time of Pandemic. More
guidelines will be explained at registration time, which will be the beginning of August. We will have a paper form and also a Google form for your convenience this year.
We understand that this transition to a combined program may be hard and perhaps difficult for your family at this time. If you are in need of an at home option, it is available to all families and you can contact our office on how to take part. The at Home option allows for the teaching of the same curriculum by parents/guardians, with quarterly check ins with Father/or our DRE. We have also created a survey of three questions to fill out that will help us with meeting your needs this Fall. You can access the survey via our Parish Facebook.
We also understand that there are going to be many transitions this year with regular schooling, returning to Mass, and more. We are here to walk with you on that path and serve you and your family in whatever capacity is needed. Please do not hesitate to contact our office with any questions or concerns.
May God Bless you and Keep you,
Director of Religious Education/Youth Minister
